(b/c "Book Wednesday" doesn't sound as good)

I'thou sure there are plenty of yous who take at least 1 volume that you reread over and over once more. One set of books that I, and many others, constantly render to is the Harry Potter serial.

These books mean so much to so many people, and I am definitely one of them. Never earlier (or since!) accept I experienced the incredible sensation of growing upward with the graphic symbol I was reading about (the first Usa edition of Book ane was published when I was 11). Harry Potter was (as far every bit he knew) merely your boilerplate, mildly weird kid, trying to survive life without the dear of his parents. Instead, he was forced to share a habitation with his dimwitted cousin, Dudley, and his aggressively ordinary aunt and uncle who spoiled their ain son rotten while treating Harry like something the cat dragged in, ate, then spit upward onto the carpet.

Discovering the intricacies of the wizarding world alongside Harry is so much fun, no matter how many times you do it. However, it's amazing when someone finds a fashion to exhale new life into something you already love. On Oct 6th, the new edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, illustrated by Jim Kay, was released by Bloomsbury Publishing.

Jim Kay, the brilliant illustrator behind Patrick Ness's A Monster Calls (another cute volume), lent his talents to the new editions of the Harry Potter series with gorgeous results.

In addition to these gems of portraiture, there are double-page spreads of analogy providing the groundwork (literally and figuratively) for the words you're reading. Eye candy is, like, the understatement of the year.

I am so excited to dive into these new editions and rediscover the globe I've wished then hard (for 17 years XD ) was real.

If you're interested in learning more well-nigh Jim Kay and his process, bank check out this nifty video! Information technology's purdy cool.

Go your hands on a re-create of the newly illustrated Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Rock asap! And don't worry too much if your face starts to melt while you read information technology.

Information technology'south gorgeous; I know.

Afterward!

I've already been on the WB Studio Tour, merely my mother — who, after watching me obsess over the books, was forced (by me) to starting time reading the books, and after savage in love with the story — hadn't earlier, and so this was shut to the pinnacle of her list for her visit. I didn't take a lot of pictures except of the attractions that were not yet a part of the bout during my first time — like the Hogwarts Express (which was super cool).

"Won-won" in Lavender Chocolate-brown's annoying squeal kept echoing in my head from the minute I saw this.

Mom thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and I enjoyed seeing her have so much fun.

The adjacent twenty-four hours, nosotros ventured over to Duck & Waffle (which is literally ii minutes walk from Liverpool Station). I had randomly decided to try my luck there once before and was turned abroad as my ensemble didn't fit the dress lawmaking — which is "smart elegance" for whatever of you planning to dine at that place. Duck & Waffle sits on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower building, just above the as touted restaurant Sushi Samba. The views from the restaurant are stunning. I truly felt like I'd put reality on pause while I was upwards in that location.

The bill of fare at Duck & Waffle is varied and somewhat experimental in the best of means. Y'all know how I love my egg yolks, simply my mom is a different fauna — she doesn't similar eggs that aren't scrambled (information technology's honestly difficult to believe sometimes that I came out of her). And then the signature dish at D&W, i.eastward. the Duck & Waffle — topped beautifully with a fried duck egg — was forgone in favor of other equally intriguing dishes. Y'all. This food was so good. Hell, everything was, including my artfully presented "Hay cocktail"…

We ordered the ox cheek donut…

Sugariness and savoury, perfectly seasoned pulled meat inside a well-crafted donut dusted with smoked paprika saccharide and wading in a puddle of apricot jam. We as well had the violet artichoke & parmesan staff of life…

…the rib center…

Massacred...

…and the ratte potatoes.

Afterward our lovely tiffin, we swung over to the Wellcome Collection to check out their Forensics showroom.

20150512_143930

LOTS of interesting stuff in this showroom, including miniature crime scenes which are even so used to train police officers in the art of deduction, the development of the instruments and techniques used to collect prove over the years, sound of an bodily dissection, and an bodily section of bloody floor that was part of a murder scene. I don't have any photos from this exhibit… only y'all're probably relieved, eh?

The exhibit is on until June 21, in case you're interested 🙂

That evening, we sat through a surprising and completely satisfying theatre experience: The Woman in Blackness at the Fortune Theatre. While nosotros were expecting an interesting show, we weren't expecting the minimalism with which this evidence is done. And when I say "minimalism," I hateful a 2-homo cast (not including The Woman), props that double as vehicles and beds both, adept utilize of shadow, light, and sound. I was NOT expecting to be scared by a stage evidence, but I really jumped in my seat (and the woman next to me curled into a ball in her seat and jumped like an electric shock had ripped through her whenever a claret-curdling scream or mysterious racket met her ears). It was great. Definitely one of the best shows I've seen since I've been here.

Still to come: an overnight trip to Paris 😀

**Sorry for the late post, and a shout-out to the bloggers I had hoped to meet at the picnic yesterday. I hope y'all had an amazing time!**

Tuesday, I visited Warner Brothers Studios in Watford for the Harry Potter Studio Tour during their "Hogwarts in the Snow" period. It was great fun and gave a lot of insight into the making of the Harry Potter films. I took TON(NE)S of photos (not all of which are included here, then you lot can stop panicking). Therefore, if you oasis't been yet and don't want to see whatever of what they've got prematurely, feel free to skip this post 🙂

Before the bout, which is cocky-guided, properly began, nosotros were shown two short video introductions. The first was nearly the explosive popularity of the books (I got a trivial teary remembering the outset time I read Harry Potter and The Wizard's Stone as a real life xi year-old weirdo born in July) and how the showtime plant its mode into the hands of filmmakers. The second film was an intro to the bout itself given past Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint (which also fabricated me weep a trivial). They spoke almost what information technology was like to grow up on the set of what are now iconic films with a family of cast and crew members, then welcomed us into the home that was once theirs.

I of the staff then showed u.s.a. onto the set of the Bully Hall which was decked out as expected with fruit and cakes and fifty-fifty flaming Christmas puddings.

Graphic symbol costumes were on display, including the original worn by an 11 year-erstwhile D-Rad! ;____; (insert all the D'aaawwwwsouthward here) Later our fourth dimension in the Bully Hall, we were set loose to roam the exhibits on our ain. So here, I will exit yous to check out some more than photos.

I highly recommend giving this bout a go! Interesting information is given in fun ways, and there's so then so much to see. Whether you're HP obsessed or but interested in film making, this tour will go on you lot engaged.

P.S. I saw The Theory of Everything. This was me:

giphy

I LOVED IT.

Also, I realized I haven't written much about books here lately. Expect more geeking out over literature in the virtually time to come 🙂
